Te Reo Māori & Te Ao Haka Teacher, and Whānau Teacher — Te Rui o Te Wairau

We are looking for a passionate, skilled Kaiako Māori to join our kura and work with amazing kōhine Māori — a role at the heart of our commitment to Māori student success. You will plan, teach and assess te reo Māori (Years 9-13, to NCEA Level 3) and te ao haka to NCEA Level 3, and be the whānau teacher for Te Rui o Te Wairau, our multi-level kaupapa Māori whānau class.
This is more than a teaching role. It is an opportunity to shape how our ākonga Māori see themselves, their whakapapa and their futures — and to lead kaupapa Māori across the whole school alongside a community that is genuinely invested in their success.
You will be fully supported
You won't be carrying this kaupapa alone. At Marlborough Girls' College you will have:
● A Senior Leadership Team and Deputy Principal with dedicated responsibility for Māori students' success, working alongside you
● An established school and student Komiti Māori, and Manutaki Māori, to lead alongside
● Colleagues across the school who share responsibility for ākonga achieving success as Māori
● Strong, ongoing relationships with iwi, hapū and whānau who actively participate in our school processes and events
● Termly whānau hui and a genuine partnership model with the families of Te Rui o Te Wairau
● A Board of Trustees with a strong, standing commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi

● Close collaboration with the Kaiako Māori at our brother school, Marlborough Boys' College
● A Kaiawhina dedicated to supporting ākonga Māori in class, and with attendance and engagement
● A part-time Kaiako Māori working alongside you with our junior classes, teaching an introduction to whakapapa
Lead and Support Kaupapa Māori
It's a big and rewarding kaupapa — and you won't be leading it on your own. With the support above around you, you'll lead and support kaupapa Māori across our school, including:
● Whānau teacher for Te Rui o Te Wairau, our multi-level kaupapa Māori whānau class
● Kapa haka across the school
● Ngā Manu Kōrero at school, regional and national level, and ā kura ā rohe
● Te Kahu Whetū, our school's Mātariki celebration of Māori students' success
● Facilitating karakia, waiata and pūrākau of local iwi across school life
Who we're looking for
● A registered, qualified teacher (or working towards registration) with strong te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
● Someone who builds empowering, trust-based relationships with ākonga and their whānau
● A collaborative leader, ready to work closely with our Komiti Māori, DP Māori Success and colleagues
● Someone who connects easily with iwi, hapū, mana whenua and our wider community
● A commitment to our vision for learning: Te Whare Tapa Whā (wellbeing), Kairangi (excellence and innovation), and Ako (learning)
